Congrats!
The 24-85 is quite good, if large, and it focuses fast.
I also had the 50, the 28-80, the 70-200, and the 100 Makro Sonnar. The 28-80 focused slower than the 24-85 but was much smaller. The tele zoom was quite good and reasonably sized. The Makro is big and heavy but superb. The 50 focused fast and needs no further description...

Great! Show us some photos when you have them.
Zeiss tweaked the design and the N 50/1.4 is substantially better than the regular C-Y 50/1.4 Planar. I really loved it, but sold all my N gear during the period when Canon users were paying big dollars for them to convert them to EOS mount.

I'm done with Contax bodies (I had too many die with electronics issues, I'm sticking with a Yashica FX3/Contax S2) - the N 50 and N85 are legendary, though

Most of a year later and I'm still happy with the N1.
I have decided I want to add the Data Back for this camera.
That has proved to be a bit of a challenge...doesn't seem to be very many around.
Then I found a listing on ebay for one. Probably not buying this one: feedback for the seller isn't where I'm comfortable and the description/heading just gives me a "WTF?" reaction:

Does anyone have any idea what "Almost Guaranteed Payment Operation Confirmed Contax Data Back D-11 For Nx Body" might actually mean?

They say operation confirmed but why then wouldn't they show it working? How did they confirm otherwise?
Pretty poor rating for their business..

Poor Japanese translation, but more importantly that's the databack for the NX, not the N1.
Look for the D-10 databack.

Still no joy finding the Data Back for my N1.
My saved search keeps returning results for the instruction manual and, occasionally, N1 cameras with the data back already installed.
Haven't quite given in to buying another camera, yet, just to have the data back.
But I did just buy an FX-3 focus screen. Having the grid will be helpful for me.
Now I just have to be patient while it is shipped.

My M5s need red dots!
I was about to start a thread regarding this same camera when it occurred to me to run a search in the boards... and voilà, here I am!
Like the OP (Rob?), I just sent my hard-earned cash in exchange for a Contax N1 with the 24-85 zoom lens. I wanted to know what to expect... and now, thanks to all of you, I know that!
I'll keep you posted.
