Contax- ST over Aria, RX?

My ST seems to have been put back together wrong. I had sent it to KEH after I first got it, as the mode selector was messed up. It looks like they put the shutter dial on wrong...the speed in the finder doesn't match the speed on the dial. But it works in A mode.

That's the bummer with these complex, automated cameras, as much as I love them -- they can crap out on you in spectacular (and not so spectacular) ways. That's why I have more than one: the RX, the ST and a 167MT.

In this case it appears it was reassembled incorrectly...I emailed KEH last night...

I have had had perhaps ten Contaxes over the past 18 years and never had any issues except for an RX that had inconsistent frame separation in the film transport, which I found on the first roll. I suppose since I got it on eBay there was no way to know its history, which is a situation in which no camera model is immune. I sent it back. That's when I got the ST.

Good to hear your Contaxen have performed well. I don't shoot mine as often as I should (I'm kind of a medium format fiend).

Add the 137 MA to that list of fine Contax SLRs.
I never had any luck trying to get an RTS II. I had one from Adorama, the shutter is messed up before I even finished the test roll. It was sent back to NY promptly.

And the RTS III is just silly -- price-wise -- for me to even consider seriously.

Weeeeell, that didn't work out.

Received my ST today, with the focus screen detached from the camera. And it's not a split-prism, appears to be the fully matte

Time to call about a return. I was looking forward to shooting with it this weekend.

I've normally had excellent luck with KEH, but between a M4 with a misaligned rangefinder and this, I'm not sure what's going on with them.

Have to drop this back off for shipping back to them today, wait for it to arrive and be processed at KEH, then they'll ship out the exchange body.

So I figure I paid for two-day shipping and I might have the camera two weeks from now.

Rx is slightly bigger BUT
Quieter
Larger screen
Less mirror shake (in fact it doesn't need mirror lock up)
Custom functions
Focus indicator

the St is smaller, uses normal batteries (heavier with batteries) and has a ceramic film pressure plate.

both are solid but I'd choose the Rx over the ST
