Contax T

Hi. Greetings!

I'm new here. I have a Contax T camera. Does anyone here know anything about this camera? I'm not sure if it's really a rangefinder, or just a point and shoot cam. It acts like a rangefinder though.

A jewel of a camera. Titanium bodied, a great Contax lens, very quiet shutter. All the things big rangefinders aspire to be.

I am considering selling mine (too much gear - too little time!), but I just haven't been able to bring myself to advertise it properly - it's just too nice. In fact I think I'll put some film in it this weekend.

It's a great little rangefinder and a cult classic. The 38mm sonnar lens is a good performer. The top plate gets dented easily so take care. Also, the little screws go into plastic and can 'pop' out if the camera gets a heavy knock and after that they become difficult to re-screw.

The Contax T is a gem I have had more than one incarnation, but I have to agree with the previous post. The Sonnar on the Rollei can surpass it. Remember we are talking about 9.8 vs. 9.9 but both are supurb. I tool some color with the Sonnar and they just jump out at you. Typical Rollei fingerprint.

I've yet to use a Rollei, much less use my camera properly! Been using a DSLR for a few months already, but to film rangefinders - a total noob I must say. Don't even know how to process my own prints! I just have a camera shop do it for me, this month, I will enroll in camera classes, which inlcude processing my own prints. hopefully, I learn more!

but $400? insane. Are you serious? My brother got it in a garage sale, and gave it to me for my bday this year. he says he bought it for less than a thousand Philippine Pesos, somewhere around $22.00 USD!
