Contax travels to Arsenal .

Hi

My broken , but cosmetically fine , Contax III sent directly from USA , is now, ironically , courtesy of Mike Haley , in the hands of an ex Arsenal Tech in Ukraine .
It will be fitted with with a '' new '' [ it may well BE new ! ] Kiev heart . I will report when it returns in late Feb . [ the rest is OK ]
It appears that the collapsible Sonnar is in fine condition and Mike will test camera and lens with film . A caes is also waiting .
Total outlay will be around £250 .

i will also be sending a parts Contax II bought from this forum , which will receive the same life saving surgery .
Maybe I could have bought one proper Contax , but , frankly , I was scared off by the concerns people have about servicing of these cameras . This way , they are less precious but will hopefully provide me with an admittedly compromised , budget Contax experience .

I am not giving up on my Kievs though !

You sound very happy with your experiment... Anyway It could sound like a "sacrilege" from a "Contax" point of view... I hope you decided this mix, because there was no other option at all, and wish you a great working camera!

If the shutter could be repaired , it would be , but it seems that everyone wants shutter parts - better a clean , honest , substitution than another typical bodge with a few Kiev parts .

It won't make an iota of difference to me as a user camera , and I am firmly outside the purist ethos [ i would , however never mess with an original working classic , unless it's a Kiev of course ! ]
