Well-known
I recently acquired a Contax TVS II. Shot 32 exposures on it, then something happened to the shutter: it won't fire, and the film will not advance. When this happens, the LCD on the left side of the camera blanks out. All other functions seem normal (autofocus, loading, rewind, etc.). Tried switching the battery, swapping the roll, but no change.
Can anyone recommend someone in Toronto to take a look at the camera? I was thinking about Kai Chung at Toronto Camera Service Centre, simply because he's near my workplace.
I really hope I can get it up and working. The first 32 frames were a joy to shoot, and I was very impressed with the quality of the pictures that were on the roll.
On a related note, this experience is making me a little wary of "newer old" cameras in general. My camera from the 60s and 70s (Olympus SP, XA, Konica 35RC, Auto S2) all work wonderfully (except the meter in the case of the Auto S2). I'm sure part of this is the relative simplicity of the electronics. I had been thinking about getting a Fuji Ga645zi at some point, but after the Contax TVS II experience, I'm starting to look more closer at classic TLRs (which I realize are an entirely different class of camera).
Many thanks.
Robert
