Hi Frank

Skip the manual. It's almost better to just use the camera functions that are obvious and come naturally.
Especially with Fuji where most all functions are at your fingertips.
Formatting cards may be the one exception. It must be done after each time you download a card to the computer.
Everything else is just everything else 😛

Frank, you're gonna love the XE-2. Fuji's optics are superb. They've been making outstanding optics, large format, enlarging lenses, etc., for decades. I hate jpegs, but the jpegs from the Fujis can't be beat. RAW is icing on the cake.

I'm such a noob at this digital game, so if you don't have the patience of Job, just look away! 🙂

With a brand new card, it has to be formatted by the camera, right? So once the battery is charged, I insert battery and new card into camera and turn it on. Hopefully a message will appear on the screen prompting me to press OK to format card. Right?

Then with a formatted card, I use a computer to download latest firmware onto card (inserted in the computer)? Right?

Formatted card Frank. Make sure the card is formatted in the camera first.

Also, never delete. Once you download your images to your computer, re-format the card in-camera. It will erase all the images that were downloaded and keeps the card fresh. It will prevent any read/write glitches to the card in the future.

I re-format each time and never just delete.
Its eight presses of the menu button on my Merrills and five on the GR V.

Like Andy says ...just like tightening up the film in my M film cameras.

When I go to my local pro lab, I'm the oldest guy there. It's filled with twenty-somethings . It's digital users that tend to be the oldsters these days. Young people are either into film or using their phone cams.

PS: as someone who worked with digital imaging for over a decade, and only discovered film 5 years ago - the OP made a big mistake. 😉
