Not quite sure if this is the proper subforum, so please let me know if it is not, but I am looking for neutral density filters for my Zeiss Ikon Contessa 35 folding RF camera (my first ever rangefinder, actually, just acquired). It seems Zeiss didn't have these in their line back in the day (actually, when did ND filters start appearing, even, overall?) and so I am wondering if there was an aftermarket solution, either a filter or a step-up ring. The thread on the lens is male, and thus us unusual and hard to match.

Not sure this helps but I have a yellow filter on my contessa. It is labeled,
"Size 285 Kodisk cloud filter made in England"
I cannot remember where or how I got it. It is a press on filter. With the focus on infinity the Contessa folds shut.
Best of luck.

Thank you. Yes, I have Zeiss red and Yellow filters that are screw-on, but I will look into the size 285. I also have seen Series 5 filter holders that screw onto this lens. I haven't had luck finding series 5 ND filters though.

What ND are you looking for? I may have an extra depending on which. Over the years I have collected a small stash.

Look for 28mm filters. They just screw on backwards onto the lens. You can't close the cover with a filter mounted, unless it happens to be Zeiss' own UV filter (which is thin enough).

Thanks for the tip on the 28, and I am looking for a 3-stop (.9/ND8), that seems to be a good general purpose filter.
