continuing digi vs film debate

I see the Gigapixel people in the news or posted every once in a while, but I don't know what the big deal is - there are numerous people shooting in ultra-large formats.

At least the gigapxl camera is a rangefinder, so we're partially on-topic 🙂

well, that camera, from what i know, is NOT a digital sensor, but is rather a large format camera, with a very high resolution lens, and they just scan the film at insane resolutions.

And my D70 produces pics just about as good as I could do with consumer level 35mm (that means the sort of 35mm you'd buy at Target). But as far as MF, I have only seen the 1Ds II and MF backs beat it out for resolution - but as far as non-resolution image quality, film still has it strong. But I still would not trust even a 22MP back with an important portrait or landscape like I would MF or LF.

That's it for me - no more discussion about digital vs film coming from me. Both have their benefits. The GIGAPIXEL or however it is spelled, is just a large format camera. The digital vs film discussion is so subjective. The preference is totally personal, as the many threads on the subject have demonstrated.
