ok usually i develop my film according to the time and dilution guide that comes on the bottom. However is it true that grain size can be controlled by using very low dilutions of developer and developing for a long time?

if anyone knows of a good website let me know

As you are an APUG menber now (the best thing a photog. can do now day's!), reed the postings bij Patrick Gainer (= gadget gainer) for film developing and these by Roger Hicks for more general information, they are very interesting, lucid, some times renewing and just splendid!
Try the Unblinking Eye site to, this one is a must!
And stay tuned on the RFF!

Good luck,

Weak developer and long processing times does not control grain size. The most important factor to granularity is the actual emusion and density.

Just overexpose 1 or 1.5 stops and underdevelop ( 20-30% less time ).
You'll get less contrast and somehow smaller grain ( but don't expect HP5 look like PanF !)
