With respect, you're comparing apples and oranges here. You're not alone BTW, look at all those threads where Sonys, Fujis or whatever are compared to M8 or M9 as if they were the same kind of commodity. The question to ask to yourself, first of all, is to know if you want a digital rangefinder. If so, there is no alternative but M8, M9 or R-D1. If not, better stay away from the latters obviously.

I know the differences between shooting RF and (auto D) SLR, I have enough camera's of both types 🙂, all I wanted to know is what would you do in my position and why?

BTW, I just ordered the Oly. So, don't try to convince me of the opposite anymore..., please!!

If I was in your position, I'd go for the M8. If I was doing the buying, I'd go for the X-Pro1.

Good call. The E-M5 is awesome, I just recently had a chance to play with it. The viewfinder is superb, and I, personally, even prefer it over the NEX-7 EVF. Add to that the great Micro Four Thirds lens lineup and the fact that the E-M5 is weather sealed, plus it has the most capable sensor of all MFT cameras so far.

I LOVE the M8, but I can see how one would end up with an E-M5. Have fun! Btw, which lenses will you be using with it?

Thanks! I didn't order the accompanying 12-50 Oly. Too slow for my liking and I already have Panasonic's 20 1.7 (awesome), 7-14 (awesome), and 14-140 (very good for such a long zoom) and have liked them very much on my GF1. I'm intrigued by the new Pana 12-35 2.8. This could be a very nice (but expensive) standard zoom. I also have a converter for mounting Leica M lenses (and a LTM to M converter for LTM lenses).

Still wondering what stabilizer to use. The one in my 14-140 lens or the one in the M5D body? Do I have a choice here and if so, what which work best?

The one on the E-M5 body is newer and it stabilizes in more direction.

I never get the decision by Panasonic to go with in-lens stabilization.
Never get a straight answer when I ask those who believe it is superior to in-body systems.

Oh, and good call on the OM-D.

Like mentioned above, if you MUST HAVE that rangefinder experience, there's no substitute. For some of us, the experience was fun, but have moved on.

Enjoy your OM!! I've yet to try one, store is always out of stock.
