Perhaps not as inspiring as some photography books, but I've just got a copy of "The darkroom cookbook" (Focal Press, ISBN: 0-240-80423-6), for my birthday.
If you're an information "whore", get a copy. Recipes, conversions, chemical backgrounds... or that's what I've seen, in my quick glimpse through the book.

wrong forum, people here are much more into equipememt and stuff.... I don't even believe the majority takes photos let alone develop them. But if you want to take part on numerous nondescript polls and other totally irrelevant information this is the place to be.
As for your present, a great book.... mine is so badly used it#s hardly readable anymore... This was the first book I bought for developing myself and it has helped me quite a bit.
