I've just gone to scan a film with my Coolscan 8000ED and am getting the following problem:
1. scanner ready lights blinks rapidly at end of power on self test, the goes steady.
2. When I put a film holder in, Nikon Scan throws up "This film holder is not recognised" error message, this happens with any film holder.
I tried with Vuescan and it just says there's no film in the scanner
I hadn't used the scanner for about a month before this and it was working fine the last time I used it (admittedly with my mac, but that's broken at the moment, so I'm using Nikon Scan 4.03 on Windows 7).
Has anyone any experience of this problem?
Doing a bit of research on the internet indicates that it might be because the scanner is somehow positioning the film carrier incorrectly - which seems to make some kind of sense to me because in the past I've had problems where the scanner would make a loud banging noise after moving the film holder all the way into the scanner, and then seem to misplace the position of the holder so that pressing eject would only move the film holder half way out. Opening the scanner up and moving the carriage back and forwards seem to sort that out.
Any ideas would be much appreciated, or links to strip down guides on the web if there are any? The last time I had it serviced by professionals it took four trips back and forth before it was working again...
