Coolscan 9000

As far as I remember the banding issue occurred only when multi-sampling? Or was it the other way round?

There was some easy fix for it, it was just too long since I had the Coolscan to remember correctly.

In my case, no; it is with normal (multi-scanning not checked) that I see banding. So far I haven't needed to use multi-sampling, so I am not sure whether that has any effect on banding or not.

I am selling my Nikon Coolscan V by the way. PM me if interested. Same quality as the 5000 but a litle slower. Its in the box with a FH3 film holder.

The 8000 bands unless you scan in super fine mode, but sometimes in very dark slides even in super fine mode some banding is visible, nothing serious though. Maybe it's the same with the 9000 (I've not used one myself)?

Oh, yes, super-fine mode. This was the workaround.
I don't remember ever having a banding problem on my 9000.

Denverdad, do you use Vuescan? Are you scanning at 4000dpi?

Yes, and yes.

Actually, since my last response I have also downloaded the latest version of Vuescan since I read a suggestion somewhere online that the banding problem may be another one of those things that "comes and goes" as Vuescan is updated. Haven't tried it out yet though.

Yes, it is due to Vuescan. If it happens try to scan at 2000 and the banding should be gone.

I bought my 9000 about a year ago. Glad I did.
The learning curve was a little formidable for the first week but now I can do some very good scans. I use the the FH-869GR glass holder but now understand the FH-869G is a alternative choice.

I have been getting Newtons rings on some 120mm scans not always but it can be frustrating after a 20 minute scan.
