Coolscan 9000ED now $6000?

Seems like only those stores that no longer have any stock are listing the LS9000 for list price. Otherwise it appears that you'll get 1 dollar in change from an outlay of 6K:

Whether this is serious or not I have no idea, but I am very glad I found a brand new unit in the summer.

Surely some manufacturer should realize these sorts of crazy prices have some significance, and try to fill this wide-open niche in the market?
 
Given the current situation I actually hope that Plustek will continue improving their 35mm scanners and eventually come out with a MF scanner (within a year or two, or it could be too late - photo labs need scanners too)
 
The Reflecta news is encouraging. One wonders whether anyone is really biting at the 9000 price of $5-6k.

I just bought an 8000 for "only" $1750. I'd be very surprised if it's price is not pulled up as well. I expect it will go for over $2000 in the near future.
 
I paid 1925 to a fellow RFFer here a few months ago, and I still feel that it was a good deal. The machine is virtually brand new, with all the packaging. Even at that time, the stores that had them wanted about $2250.

I also have the Cool Scan 5000, which I bought with all the accessories (slide feeder, negative strip holder, APS film feeder) back in 2006 for under $1000 from my workplace. They had gone "all digital". Since I had been the one who ordered the equipment in the first place, and used it primarily, it was a no brainer to buy all of it at the discount price offered. Otherwise, they would throw it into the dumpster.
About 5 months ago, I saw that the basic scanner itself now sold for above $3000 on ebay.

At this rate, Nikon scanners seem to be the best investment for the money.
 
Well, I'll tell you somethiing, if anyone was going to offer me even $4k for my Nikon 9000 I'd sell it in a heartbeat.

I like my 9000 but $6k is a lot of money for it. If I were to spend this kind of money I'd look for a used Imacon scanner.
 
BTW, Amazon does not always offer the best prices.

My 2 year old is crazy about Thomas the Tank engine. Apparently, a few rarer out of production items now sell at collector prices on Amazon. For example, "Diesel" for $35 on Amazon. My wife found it new at Target for $7. Other specialty toy stores also sell at a reasonable price. So, my advice would be to do some web searches.

For those of you interested in fountain pens, the Parker Duofold book by Sheppard and Zazove (printed in 2006) is offered for sale at $200 on Amazon. I wrote to Mr. Sheppard directly, and he got in contact with the publisher. I obtained a copy at the original selling price of $80. Sure, the book was never inexpensive, but the point is that if you look around, you'll find one without the "Wall Street" price.
