been using copal square since '66 (Konica slrs) - not noticed shutter bounce - usual (if any) problem has been shutter-mirror-wind-on linkage , not the copal itself
I've replaced the shutter now. It was the only way I knew to fix the problem. But if anyone reading this does have any information, I'd still be interested. Thanks.
Hah! I just Googled for info on the shutter anti-bounce catch and found my own question that I asked nearly five years ago. Clearly I've progressed a bit since then so here's the answer to my own question for future reference.
Note that this applies to the version of the Copal shutter as fitted to Contax 139 cameras. Other variants may be the same or similar or may not.
The problem is the catch that should catch the second curtain to prevent bounce. It can become stiff and fails to work. What's more, it can prevent the second curtain from fully closing which can consequently fail to trigger the mirror return so the mirror may stay in the up position.
I've attached some pics of the catch as it should be when closed and as it probably will be if it's become stiff.
