Copenhagen 2011 with R-D1

Hi guys

I went to Denmark for a few days, travelling light. I took my Epson R-D1 and 28mm lens which is my usual rig, it fits into hand luggage and I just like the way it performs. I just sold my Leica film kit because the R-D1 just makes sense and the results I think are stunning (though I'm learning to do it any justice)

Here are a few shots from my travels, I hope you enjoy and please feel free to comment and critique!

Hahahaha... that 'okay' meme is so good.
But about your photos - you're getting really nice b&w tones out of that r-d1, so I'd be inclined to say that you definitely made the right choice selling the film kit and sticking to the epson...

That bottle collection looks epic!
 
hahahahah ok, first of all... great usage of the OKAY face...

really lovely photos, i'm not a particular fan of high contrast B&W (especially like #3) but that first shot is fantastic. #8 is extremely classy... a shame #7 isn't in focus, i bet that luggage she was carrying was amazing ;)

the last shot is also pretty nice, i love the colors!
 
Nice photos! We were in Copenhagen in July, too. Weren't you hassled abt taking pix in Christiania, w/ all the "no photos" signs?
 
I like the 8th. Pure clean simple composition with nice tones and sharpness.

However the photos doesn't really connect to copenhagen. Atleast in my eye, it doesn't really matter where you took these.
 
For my personal taste N° 1 is super. I like the picture itself which let me imagine a story (as if it is the cover of a book) and I like the small details in the background, like the man with bicycle in the background. N° 8 is also interesting for the composition and the good grey tones. I'll give a look at your flickr in the afternoon. ciao

Super shots from a great camera in a wonderful city. These mean something to me because I just bought an R-D1 after selling my last one nearly two years ago. Oh...and I got engaged in Copenhagen in April. :)

fdigital, thanks - the B+W tones from the camera have a lovely 'noise' at 1600ISO. They look very film like, which I love.

umcelinho, thanks for the comment. The super high contrast was used on that building because I wanted it to really leap out. I must admit though I do like high contrast in general. I'm glad you like shot #8, believe it or not that was just the casual canteen area in the design museum. Every little detail was thought through.

Bingley - I carried my camera through the area with no problems, I thought about firing off a couple of shots but didn't want to be chased by some angry folk so the only pictures I have are from before we realised where we were. It wasn't until we got back to the hotel to find out where we had been that we realised what Christiania was about!

Mattikk, thanks - I know the photos could be 'anywhere' because I didn't really do the typical tourist sites, or when I did I didn't especially want to photograph them because I don't find landmarks especially interesting to photograph. What I did really enjoy were the beautiful colours on the houses, especially the deep orange with worn areas of plaster like in pic #4. To me, these pictures rustle up far more evocative memories of the trip than a picture of the mermaid.

Robert blu - thanks for the comments. I was frustrated that I cropped the paws on pic #1, I had several attempts (shooting from waist level with ND8 filter) but love the girl walking past. If you look on Flickr there are some other examples.

Robert Harrison - glad the pictures stirred something in your soul; isn't that what we all try to achieve? Enjoy your R-D1, I guess you don't know what you've got until it's gone.

drinkingeye, cheers. The camera is just so natural for me to use, now. The viewfinder helps a great deal and I just love the 28mm lens (equivalent 40mm-ish). I think it gives me a great combination of good width and depth of field, especially with an ND filter in bright light.

Oh and I realised I missed out #6 which I have just edited into the original post. Just a bit of fun, that one - but I like the rich colours.

I really like #6 and #8 -- gorgeous colors and nice positioning of the people; and really finely balanced composition, lighting and b&w tones.

Man, everytime I see what the Epson can do I want one. The only problem is that I can't justify spending $1000+ on a 5 year old digital camera... Maybe it's just because my digital expectations have grown with the use of more modern digitals. Probably best I don't spend on an Epson though... I've spent so much already!

Great photos! I really like number 1... I find it kind of cute and ironic actually. Ironic 'cause you'd figure that dogs are usually the ones that can't stay still. There's a really... peaceful and worry free feel to that dog!

I enjoy 6 a lot too! The colours really pop and I like the way the wall frames the guys... kinda makes them look like they're in that background.

I've always wanted to do a shot like number 7... but I don't travel very often. Oh, and the out of focus girl looks like she'd be a hottie if she were in focus :]

And I love 8's tones and composition :]
