Wondering if this F mount cap is harmful to my F4 seems a lot of these have this body cap fitted to them..

Nikon has used the same lens mount from 1959 till now. The Z series cameras have a different mount but your F4 is just fine. I use the same body caps on a 1972 F and a 2014 Df.

Any F cap will do. The one you have is fine.

Yeah, as everyone's said above, that one will work fine. All the same, I really like Nikon's newest body caps (and their rear lens caps)--they fit on quite firmly, and they seem to provide a better seal against nasties.
If you're not worried about having the "correct" contemporary caps, the new ones are the way to go--and they're not real expensive.

Since the lens mount hasn't changed since about 1959 and lens caps should work just fine. I read K. Rockwell site and can't agree. I have body caps from my 1st Nikon F2 to the latest D750. They all interchange just fine.
