Cost of film in Paris, France

I will be in Paris in October next. Can anyone tell me where Tri-X is available and about what it costs? Does FNAC still stock film?

I bought some film on the boulevard beaumarchais, aka boulevard de photo. About the second photo shop on the right when coming from Bastille.
It was Hp5+ though and normal price around 5 euro's. She had all sorts of film.

Out of curiosity I checked what Ilford films cost at their place, because the price gap between Kodak and Ilford films in Germany has widened recently:

1 roll of Delta 400: 7,20 € (!), 6,53 if you buy 10.

1 roll of HP5plus: 5,90 Euro, 5,34 if you buy 10.

I have a lot of love for HP5 and Ilford, but the price difference is quite substantial. From the excellent customer communication Ilford does (Simon Galley etc.) I know though and believe that they only do what they have to do economically.

Gary, I was in Paris in May and I bought slide film and had it processed at Negatifplus. Prices were reasonable for Europe and the staff were professional and easy to deal with (even with their broken English and my completely irrepairable French). Well worth a look even for B&W film/processing. Prices are current on their website.

I did see FNAC at Montparnasse selling Tri-X (single rolls); I don't remember their prices, but I do remember they were ridiculous. I'd take the above advise and shop around at Beaumarchais (you have to walk a lot, and like all French info, it is difficult to come by online...mainly because most of their sites --if they have one-- le suck big tyme).

Negatif+ is great; that's where I get my (color) film developed, and where I buy film if I'm not doing a large mail order. Avoid the Fnac: their film prices are immorally high.

I too get my films developed at negatif+ : only one problem so far (this summer), but all in all : cheap, efficient and quick service.

One last remark about the Kodak/Ilford price difference at the store mentioned above: I realized that with Kodak film (Tri-x, TMY2) they even show the option of buying 50, and 100 rolls at a time: Tri-X can thus come down to 2,75 Euro... that is the lowest price I have come across so far in Europe. Good for you! 🙂

??? 50 rolls of 36 exp TMX come out to 3 EUR per roll, or $4,33. If freestyle really has TMX listed for $2,15 (including sales tax), I will order some to be delivered to my hotel the next time I'm in the US. But I can't find it for anything less than 5 USD on their site (before tax!)

I shall heed the advice of leaving my credit card with my wife when in Paris next week 😀 It looks as though with these prices I can leave my film at home and simply buy it in Paris and not have to risk the drone, ex burger-flippers of TSA mucking it up.

When you pay several thousand dollars for a trip, a few hundred dollars for film can be absorbed.

I used to pop into "Photo Service" when I needed a quick roll. Not cheap but not too horrible either.

Last visit was a couple years ago so I can't be sure they still have film in stock.

The post I was replying to cited "film" as being about half the price in France as in OZ. I find Freestyle and B&H to be way cheaper than any of the prices I've seen in France, after the currency exchange rate. I shoot Tri-X or HP5+. Don't know about TMY or TMX.

The internet site cited in that post (photostock.fr) also has prices for Tri-X: 150 EUR (216 USD) for 50 TX (incl tax), vs 200 USD (pre-tax) at freestyle. So, TMax films seem to be cheaper, and classic Kodak films are about the same. It's easy to get ripped off in France if you don't know where to shop (don't buy film at the Fnac if you have a choice), but the same is true in the US. If you know where to shop in France, I don't see a big difference in price for Kodak, certainly not double, compared to the equivalent vendors in the US.

At least for myself, it seems I'm well placed. I prefer TMax films, and somehow they seem even cheaper here than at the discount dealers in the US ! Lucky me 🙂)
