Couple of Problems with my R4A

Background: Have had the R4A for about 4 month's. Put about 25 rolls or so through it. Changed the batteries twice so far. I rewind slowly and advance normally (IMO).

Problem 1) When I put a new roll in and attempt to advance the first few frames, the film won't advance half the time. It seems like I have to turn the camera on and off again and just play around (Note: I always set the shutter speed to 1/1000 or 1/2000).

Problem 2) The spacing between frames is very uneven for a new camera. My 28 yr. old A-1 doesn't do it, so why does this? (Note: I advance the film the same speed as I do with the A-1)

Have these things occurred with anybody else here? Is this normal behavior with these cameras?

Thanks.

I have just received my R4A and will give it a try with it's first roll of film this weekend. I'll let you know.

You're not asking about it, but is it normal to change the batteries twice in four months, after 25 rolls of film ??

Stefan.

I had a Bessa L which started having weird winding problems. It wouldn't take up the film properly, then advancing film through the camera became impossible. The wind on lever would slip 1/4 - 1/2 through the cycle and I would have these half frames which started around frame 15 of a 24 exp. roll.
