Ouch!!

Do you think this crack on the rim which has the letters and brand name of the lens affect image in any way (like let light go in etc?)?

Do you think it should get a repair or not? The thread of the filters is not affected it seems it is on the surface.

I wouldn't think so, but I'd like to here your opinions.

Thanks

Ask Mamiya whether they still have a spare bezel for you - N series M645 lenses aren't yet past official service life.

If you can't find a new trim ring, why not take off the damaged ring and repair? I'm guessing the ring is made of plastic so a bit of glue should take care of the crack. Just fix and re-install.

so you guys are saying that this bezel is only for decoration purposes? Any ideas on how this can be removed? I could try gluing it back together.

It's actually just a trim ring. The lens will function fine without it.

It will just unscrew. You might be able to find something (tweezers?) that will fit into the cracks/holes and allow you to twist it off. You can also use a rubber drain stopper or something that will allow you press on the ring and unscrew it.

If would not be pulled out, but screwed out, and originally it had no hole. That coarse hand made hole (and perhaps the crack opposite as well) is the result of some amateurish (or incomplete) repair attempt - in pro service the bezel is screwed out with a rubber ring or, if it has come stuck, destroyed and replaced with a spare.

Actually the whole is machine made, the pic is not good enough to show. It exists since the lens was new. And it's just one whole.

Is that rubber ring something I can purchase on ebay or sometihng easily.

Mine does not have it. But mid-series changes do happen.

A search for "rubber lens tool" will turn up quite a few. So will "rubber stopper", at a lower price.

Do you know where I could ask for Mamiya parts? There is no way I can find them in my country. Could you perhaps point out somewhere to ask?

I found the tool for the repair.

thank you
