Considered starting this messing about with a retired 2 or 3 megapixel digicam's sensor and the lens (generally 45mm or so) from one of the rangefinders which became so popular in the 1960s, after the first Canonet? Not for results, mind, just as a proof of concept sort of thing which will cost little.
