Welcome to this critique thread. Please read the purpose statement and the guidelines/ground rules regarding participation.

Purpose
The primary purpose of this thread is to provide a forum where photographers can give and receive constructive criticism on one another's photographs. By setting up some basic guidelines we hope that this thread will provide a forum where the give and take of honest constructive criticism can help us become better photographers.

Guidelines/Ground Rules
The thread has very specific rules regarding participation. The one basic rule is that you cannot provide criticism on an image or comment in a critique thread unless you also have an image posted. To post an image to this thread you must be a participant. Participation in this thread is limited. Here are the guidelines and ground rules for participation:

• Participation in this thread is limited to 5 photographers
• Participants join the thread by posting their intention. You can simply reply with your intent to join by posting something like: "I'm joining," "I'm in," or just state your name
• Joining is on a "first come, first served" basis. The first 5 to reply become the participants
• Once the thread has 5 participants, no other photographers can join or participate in the thread
• Once the thread is full of participants all photographers will upload their image(s)
Please abide by any thematic requirement (e.g., landscape, portrait, etc.)
•The number of photos for each participant is limited to one
• Photographers attach photos as thumbnails (no inline images or links)
• Photographers post their images supplying titles (if any) and other pertinent information (the amount of information should be minimal)
• Photographers can only comment on their own images and reply to comments only when everyone else in the thread has posted their comments on the image
• Every participant must comment on every photo (except their own—initially)
• Every participant must make at least two comments, one positive comment, and one constructive criticism (which is actually two positive comments)
• Once every photographer has commented then a free flowing discussion begins. It is at this point that every photographer can comment on their own work and reply to comments, ask questions, etc.
• The participants decide when the thread closes.

Ray,

I like the detail that remains in the grass, while it maintains a very nice white. The exposure and post processing are very good. I like the way the composition is almost divided into thirds with some detail (the grassy stuff) in the lower left so as not to leave a dead space.

Remrf,

This is a nice exposure for the sky. Its conveys a feeling of vastness in me, it brings back memories of the sights I saw driving from the east to west coast.

I like the way the rays of light shine on what looks like the tallest mountain in the center of the frame. It works there more than in the right or left or wherever else you put it IMO.

Some have a problem with centering things, but maybe they read the rules too much and teenage rebellion got the better of them?

Jan,

I like how you added foreground elements to the image, like Ray's. I can see it is farmland, something I'm getting used to in NC, as a former New Yorker. There seem to be strips of color in the foreground alternating from light brown to a greenish cyan color. I think this adds to the contrast of the image. I'm glad it is in color as I think it would lose impact in B&W due to the closeness of the tones if they were desaturated.

Raid, this an exquiste color landscape. I really like the non-complementary colors of the sky and the grass and the easy transition between them via the colors and hues in the hills and the trees. I can't wait to view this on my Mac screen. The scene is very calm. I like the format; it adds to the calming sense. I might try to lose the building on the left, but try to keep the format/aspect ratio the same. I am also very slightly distracted by the white highlight "dot" on the right side. Some spotting/cloning could eliminate it easily. As usual, great job!

Jan, very nice work here. I love how the foreground contributes to the sense of space. I come into this image looking at the foreground and my eye draws upward and into the image, across the shadows to the openly lit area, then onto the stacks of hay (?) and further to the horizon. I really like the "bowl" in the middle. It works to keep the attention centered as I look into the image. The colors are nice and subtle. I even like the slight vignetting in the corners of the sky.
I am seriously s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g to find something constructive to add. In my effort I noticed a faint tower (?) about center on the horizon, but I don't think it hampers the composition at all. In fact. it's a nice discovery and proof how far into the image I am drawn. Just a great landscape. Well done!
