Jim: This is a nice photo with a relaxing and cooling effect in a hot summer day like today. Technically, the photo is well executed, but I am not too happy about the rock in the foreground and the dark areas in the background.

Wayne: The set-up is cute, but I find the child "lost" in the steame engine.
On my monitor, the photo appears as low contrast. Is the child in focus?
It is a nice photo. Congratulations on doing 4x5. I am still waiting to one day use my Linhof.

Raid,
The child was moving, it was a shutter speed of of around 1/15 of a second.

Rafael,
This is a nice B&W image with a tone of old times. The only part that bothers me is the washed out part on the top of the image.
I have included [for fun] a graphical sketch of the photo.

Thanks Raid, that's a really interesting effect. I have not even begun to learn photoshop. At this point, I am really just able to scan in images (and I'm not even sure that I can do that very well!) I really like what you've done with this image. (By the way, I also really like you new avatar, very cool!)

Rafael,
I am also an amateur when it comes to photoshop. I have only the limited edition of PS. Maybe someone will sell me a full version of PS one day.
I have decided to change my avatar once in a while since none of the avatars "represents me"; ther are just photos.

Wayne: That's what children do; move! Holding a toy/doll can help keep the kid still briefly.

Better late than never?
Better late than never?
First let me apologies for the long delay. Unfortunately, I hurt my back over the week-end and have been drugged and in bed for the last few days
The good news is that it is only pulled a muscle and I'm on the mend.
Here are some comments; I have not read the other posts yet.

At first this looked like a cute family shot, but on reflection I like the contrast between the small vulnerable child and the large powerful image. The image is rather small, but as far as I can see the child is looking straight at the camera and has an interesting pose.
I think the image is too small and I'm not sure I like the square format. A rectangular format with the full engine might be better.
Rafael
The cyclist makes this a very good image; especially his movement.
I know that these sorts of situation can be very contrasty, but I find the background to be a bit too bright. I'm also not sure that I like the path right up the centre.

Lovely image - pose and lighting are very good.
I'm neutral about the grain , but I'd little to see some more detail in the child's face; particularly around the mouth.

This is a good image. It is well exposed and shutter speed was well selected. The water is not too smooth and retains a sense of movement.
To be honest I'm not a big fan of landscapes etc. - I like people shots. I suppose my only negative comment would be the two dark areas at the top. Perhaps it would be better with just one?
Regards,
David

Thanks for the comments on my picture.
As Rafael spotted, these two young ladies are promoting Nivea. I followed them for a while on Grafton Street, an incredibly busy street in Dublin, as I wanted to capture the writing of their legs. I took this picture by just bending down and pointing the camera; so the composition was a bit hit or miss.
John, there is no reflection - there are to girls.

two girls - there you go - I kept looking at the feet and angle of the limbs and thinking that something wasn't right.
hope your back heals quickly - at least carrying RF gear is lighter than a bag load of SLRs!
