Welcome to this critique thread. Please read the purpose statement and the guidelines/ground rules regarding participation.

Purpose
The primary purpose of this thread is to provide a forum where photographers can give and receive constructive criticism on one another's photographs. By setting up some basic guidelines we hope that this thread will provide a forum where the give and take of honest constructive criticism can help us become better photographers.

Guidelines/Ground Rules
The thread has very specific rules regarding participation. The one basic rule is that you cannot provide criticism on an image or comment in a critique thread unless you also have an image posted. To post an image to this thread you must be a participant. Participation in this thread is limited. Here are the guidelines and ground rules for participation:

• Participation in this thread is limited to 5 photographers
• Participants join the thread by posting their intention. You can simply reply with your intent to join by posting something like: "I'm joining," "I'm in," or just state your name
• Joining is on a "first come, first served" basis. The first 5 to reply become the participants.
• Please, only join this thread if you are able post an image within 24 hours of joining.
• Once the thread has 5 participants, no other photographers can join or participate in the thread
• Once the thread is full of participants all photographers will upload their image(s)
• Please abide by any thematic requirement (e.g., landscape, portrait, etc.)
•The number of photos for each participant is limited to one
• Photographers attach photos as thumbnails (no inline images or links)
• Photos should be standard screen resolution (72~90) and the longest side of the image approximately 10 inches in length.
• Photographers post their images supplying titles (if any) and other pertinent information (the amount of information should be minimal)
• Photographers can only comment on their own images and reply to comments only when everyone else in the thread has posted their comments on the image
• Every participant must comment on every photo (except their own—initially)
• Every participant must make at least two comments, one positive comment, and one constructive criticism (which is actually two positive comments)
• Once every photographer has commented then a free flowing discussion begins. It is at this point that every photographer can comment on their own work and reply to comments, ask questions, etc.
• The participants decide when the thread closes.

We need one more participant before we can post our images. Come on ... who wants to be that volunteer?

Ray: Why don't you give us the green light to get started with four participants, and then allow a fifth person whenever this may happen?

Here's mine. A shot of Tucson from "A" Mountain just to the southwest of the city.

remrf: The city stands out in 3-D while the mountains in the background look as if painted. The clouds are puffy enough to stand out, without overwhelming the image. The photo is sharp, and I find it excellent.

warren: The image is well balanced and it includes several factors that work with each other. There is the foggy side to the picture with sharpness in the bushes. The background is dreamy. This image is excellently done.

sam: This is an interesting image in which you have [successfully] broken the rule of having a sharp, well defined foreground. The colors are pastel like, and there is a feeling of a wind breeze. Well done.

ampguy: The blue color dominates this photo of the lake. The cloud formations are a nice addition to the water of the lake. The horizon is level as can be.

What a great group of photographs in this thread. I like each one of the entries (other than my own) for a variety of reasons not the least of which is each is an example of a well framed landscape shot with some individual character and visual pop.

Warrent T: An excellent photograph in my opinion. Did you crop in camera? Kudo's for your compositional skill if you did and good on ya' for your editing skills if ya' didn't. Either way the composition of this shot I find very artful. The light tones on the high left counterbalanced with the darker tones of the tree on the right. The down slope from right to left in the foreground with the water on the low left providing a counterpoint. There is a graphic balance that is at once stable and active. And the surface image is also very visually appealing. Good shot. Good eye.

Raid: Another great shot where you had to be in the right place at the right time. I like how you blow the rule of thirds out of the water so to speak with a 50/50 composition that is both a stunning landscape and a beautiful abstract at the same time. A Rorschach sunset.Who knows what one might see in the image if one ponders it a while. Don't change a thing. It's just fine as it is.

samdj1210: As Raid said this is a photo that breaks a cardinal landscape rule and get's away with it. I can feel the breeze that is moving the grass. The visual distraction of the blur in the foreground is nicely compensated by the clearly focussed background. It grounds the image while leaving the action in the foreground free to move. I'd like to see an 11x14" print of this. Something big anyway. The shot deserves it.

Ampguy: I'm a sucker for monochrome landscape shots like this. I can hear the water lapping on the shore. There is a calming "day's end" feel to the image. Enough clarity of image that one can wander through the shot picking up details not seen at first glance. The shot stands very well as it is but I do wonder if you have considered cropping on the right side to remove the whatever it is in the lower right corner? It is not doing anything for the composition and I think the image would lose nothing were it gone. In any case a beautiful photograph.

remrf -- "A" Mountain:

I like the tones very much. The top half show a nice view of the sky meeting the mountains, meeting the flatland. Very good shadows in the mountains.

The tone of the buildings makes me think of an old time postcard, I'm glad you did this in color. When I see these vast views of a city, I always have a hard time figuring out how to frame, trying to determine which buildings or areas are the most interesting to capture. I think you've done a great job with that here.

Warren T. -- Foggy Lake Merced:

This is a great image, capturing the fog the way it is, along with some detail of the houses and buildings on the hills in the background. I like the position of the tree and the sloping hill. The triangular white patch of road on the lower left distracts me a little, but I don't think I would crop it out. Very nice.

Raid - Sky/clouds:

I'm looking at the big image and tweaking my brightness/contrast. This is a stunning vertical symmetrical sunset of an island or land from a boat I think. Very nice. My initial thoughts were that I usually see these rectangular and yours is square, but I think if you printed this large, that the aspect ratio is fine and likely more different than other photos of this type. Excellent.

samdj1210 -- Winday day on the Sea Wall:

Great vertical shot of grass in the wind on a flat area with a nice sky. I like the use of colors, the green grass in front, trees, and the blue sky really add to the brown grass. Excellent photo.
