Cross process

Hi guys,
Has anybody tried to develop Kodak Tri-X & Tmax by cross-processing with C41? I have a few rolls of Tri-X & Tmax but have difficulty finding a reliable developer and I have to send it via parcel. I was thinking it might not make a big difference since it's B&W but I'm also afraid it might turn out messing up the whole roll & I end up zip.

Don't even try. Last time a lab accidentally processed 2 rolls of b&w film as c-41 I got back 72 blank exposures.

From my understanding, C41 film have silver halide layers, so you can develop them in standard b&w chemistry. But Tri-X does not have the dye which will later form the negative after the silver is washed out.

So any silver halide b&w film will show perfectly nothing when processed in C41, because the silver grains are washed out.

Try b&w film intended for C41, Ilford (XP2) and Kodak (T400CN) make them.

Right - the bleach or blix step will wash the image away. Develop the film in a solution of coffee + washing soda + vitamin C.

In addition to the above, films like Tri-X can't stand the C41 process temperatures.

You may want to try one of the B&W films made for C41, if they are available in your area. These are Ilford XP2 and Kodak BW400CN
The Kodak film has an orange mask like color materials so that it prints well on RA4 color paper. The Ilford has a clear base for conventional B&W printing.
