Is there any real difference between copal and compur shutters in size 0? (as far as mounting is concerned)

The pacemaker crowns appear to only come with compur shutters, but I have found what appear to be lensboards specifically for copal shutters. Is this really necessary, or can I just go ahead an use a copal 0 instead of the compur?

I would also like to know if this is a bad idea because of the body shutter release coupling (not that I care, I just would like to know).

You know, I would like to get a slightly better lens, and most appear to be in copal shutters these days.

(still working on the rangefinder and the ground glass. I did not really expect this to be a project camera. damn.)

No, because there's some specific arse-covering about minor variations, stepped retaining rings,etc. that would have taken too long to repeat.

I'm not sure that I understand the question. I own various view camera lenses. 1 Fuji in a Copal #0 shutter, 3 (1 Fuji, 1 Nikkor and 1 Tominon) in Copal #1 shutters and a Kodak Ektar 127mm lens in a Kodak shutter that is 1 or 2 milimeters larger than a Copal #0 size. I have lensboards with #0 and #1 size holes. I used sandpaper and a file to enlarge one of #0 holes to fit the Kodak shutter. I also have 2 Linhof boards, 1 with a correct #0 hole and the other has an enlarged #0 hole that accepts the Kodak shutter perfectly.

At the moment I can't remember what the Copal 0, 1, 3S (small) and 3 hole sizes are. S.K. Grimes has a table on their web pages somewhere. If the Compur shutters have the same dimensions then you can use lens boards drilled for Copal shutters. You'll have to measure the Compur shutters or look online for a similar table of sizes.

The problem was actually the other direction: using a copal 0 in a hole designed specifically for a compur 0 (which is ever so slightly smaller, by specification).

My understanding is that there should not be an issue, and I was trying to make sure of that.

It turns out that I am probably going to just give it a shot and see what happens. It can't be worse than the current situation.

If I understand the OP's question, it is effectively "does a Copal No. 0 shutter require the same size lensboard hole as the Compur No. 0? (or vice versa)"

It is my understanding that both require a 34.7 mm hole. I know nothing about a need for stepped retaining rings for this kind of application. I'm open to learning something new, though...

The Graflex lens boards are easily adapted to just about any lens that will fit within your front standard. I have a Caltar II 150 lens in a Copal shutter on mine. With a hole cutter, or even a simple file (and patience) you can squeeze many different lenses onto the Graflex cameras, one of the reasons they're still so popular. As far as the shutter release on the body, just rotate the shutter to where the camera's arm will trigger it. In most cases this works fine, but in some cases it's remotely possible you'll have to use a cable release or hand trigger the shutter. The Graflex cameras have very adaptable parts, so I can't see a situation where you couldn't bend or extend the camera's shutter release arm to trigger the shutter. If the shutter were too big to do this it would also be too big to fit into the standard.
