A couple of cultural icons of the States ...

First, the Most Photographed Bridge in the Known Universe!

Second, the Roseman Bridge of Madison County, Iowa. (Yes, THOSE bridges, and THAT Madison County.) 🙂

These were taken 40-some years apart, not to admit my real age and how long I have been shooting. 🙂

The BB was done with my original Mamiya SD, probably Kodacolor II film.

The second was with the Pentax using the Takumar 28-80 and Svema film. The semi-obvious barrel distortion is typical of that lens when zoomed out wide, and the muted, almost pastel colors, are typical of the Svema film.

The newly remodeled Space Needle, whose design authorship is actually disputed. One of the consulting firms, John Graham Jr., went on to build many other revolving-floor restaurants. Was the setting of a dramatic assassination scene at the beginning of Alan Pakula's political thriller The Parallax View.

A while back I was invited to assist a professor in documenting a construction project and was honored, and terrified, to go up in a doorless helicopter. Snapped this en route, though I wish I'd chosen a different lens—that Tamron 17-35 was atrocious on full-frame, even stopped down.

I don't think you need to apologize for anything about this photo. My, how those colors grab one and draw one into the scene! And that is certainly not the normal view one gets of the tower. Just great! I was curious what was in the lower right corner?

What tourists think is a Cuban cultural icon

What tourists think is a Cuban cultural icon

Tourists to Havana pay big bucks to be driven around in "an old American car". To meet the demand for convertibles, Cubans use acetylene torches to quickly remove the roofs of 2 door and 4 door sedans. Apparently, pink is the popular color this year so many cars are quickly repainted.

Where we go from here... who knows, but last week in Toronto culture was all Raptors. I happened to be in town on parade day. Here's a pic taken with an iPhone SE.

Speaking as a Canadian living in America, I find it ironic that a Canadian team (with a roster of mostly Americans and no Canadians) wins the NBA championship, while an American team (with mostly Canadians) wins Lord Stanley's Cup. 🙄

a painting inside a temple dedicated to Ya Mo, a local heroin from Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima), Thailand.
She, together with other local women, had used their female charms to get hostile invaders from Laos drunk, in consequence enabling them to free their captured husbands and to kill the invaders.
