From Leica II to IIIg, curtain and ribbons are sewed on metalic ledges; from Leica M3 they are inserted/enclosed (I'm not sure of the proper word) into their metalic ledges.
Does anyone knows how to work with theses folded ledges ?
-- are ribbons and curtains only tighten or also glued ?
-- how do you open a ledge ?
-- how how do you close/tighten it ? with pliers ?
In the Leitz repair manual for M3 there is mention of a special device to put the curtains into the ledge, but they don't show it.

If you are replacing your curtains, I would buy a set of them premounted on the metal bars. That's the best and easiest way to do it

use a sharp flat blade( i.e., craft knife) to open the ledge;
apply some glue( not too much) when re-insert the curtain(although original process doesn't involve this);
use pliers to close the ledge and hold in position during curing of glue.
The ribbon is sewed on, but some glue will do no harm.
