Hi RF gang

Does anyone know if there is a shop out there that will convert an M-A to have the plastic tipped film advance and angled rewind knob?

I know Leica used to offer this ala carte, but since this is no longer an option I was wondering if there was any way to get this done?

Thanks,
Nick

the canted film advance would be possible but to install the angled rewind knob I doubt it.

It sounds like you want an M4. Why don't you just sell your M-A and get an M4.

You can swap the film advance lever pretty easily, but do this at your own risk. You simply need to unscrew the collar around the film advance and it should just swap out with minimal effort. To be safe and not scratch/damage your beautiful MA, You'll need appropriate flex clamp wrenches like these here:

I've swapped a few of my M4's to have the full metal advance without the plastic thumb lever which is essentially the reverse of what you're trying to do. It's a simple operation.

On the other conversion, I wouldn't think you'd be able to swap the straight rewind knob (M2/M3/MP style) to an angled version like that of the M6/M7/M4 but that may be something Leica or a tech like Don Goldberg could handle.

Best of luck and I hope your conversion goes well!

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I actually already have an M4, so that is sadly not the easy solution.

That’s great to know how easy it is to switch the film advance.

I have not yet asked Leica, I think they may do it. I’m going to go by the store when I have a second and ask.

I figured I would get some good intel here and I have! Thanks everyone.

Anymore ideas greatly appreciated!
