Customizing your Pen F

The great thing about the Pen F is that you can customize it until it produces exactly what you want. However, it might be difficult to find a good starting point. And sometimes the default settings are not perfect.

My suggestion for a starting point for better b/w results would be this seeting:

- use Mono Profile 2
- set Highlights to +3
- set Mid tones to +1
- set shadows to -4
- set film grain effect to 0

Any other suggestions?

I understand that Mono Profile 2 is supposed to mimic Tri-X... not sure if that's true.

Agree that there is a wide spectrum of settings, but its key attraction is the stabilised sensor and that one can use just about any lens on it.

I use raw files, so buttons and knobs beyond the enlargement function for focussing are mostly irrelevant. The Olympus raw handling program plus Photoshop give the control I need.

The very high resolution mode is fine, but need a firm support with longer lenses. The result from leaving it propped against a rock with a 100mm was noticeably less sharp than when on the tripod . Auto HDR, limits for auto-ISO are useful embellishments, but there migh be other more useful features added.

Reprogramming a wheel to set the stabilization focal length instead of having to use the menu would be nice. An option of wired computer connection like the Canon tethering program should also be possible with a firmware update. "Picture-in-picture" enlargement for focussing even more desirable.

The worst "feature" is the impossibility of turning off the four way wheel on the back which moves the focussing and spot-metering point when one grips the camera.

With some firmware changes it could aspire to be the "poor mans Leica".
