CV 12mm on X-Pro1 ? :)

New member here but thought I'd add to the conversation as I purchased the CV12mm M-mount a week or two after buying my X-Pro 1 as I didn't find the 18mm wide enough. Below are a few samples taken with the combo using the Fujifilm M-mount Adapter.

F-Stop may not be totally accurate as I'm going off memory since the CV12 doesn't communicate what aperture was used to the camera.

OK, if this is the "bad" IQ we are expecting from this camera and CV12 or CV15... I can definitly live with it 😀

Ahhhhhhhh.... a bunch of scenes *I* can relate to !! 🙂

I had a real pain finding mine and had to resort to B&H. I tried all the usual rangefinder shops in Toronto & Montreal and nobody had the 12mm. B&H had 3 left when I called them and everyone seems to keep saying the Voigtlander lenses are hard to stock right now.
 
I don't know, I think waiting for the native wide makes more sense than slapping a $700 lens on a $1700 body and be happy that the web size image looks ok at F11? You won't be able to use the OVF either which is the point of XP1. There are much cheaper and better solution out there. For example, at $700 you can get a cheap m4/3 body and a used 9-18 and get corner to corner sharpness at F5.6, pixel peeping style.

But it's not my call, of course. 🙂

That's assuming Fuji ever releases a 12mm prime which isn't part of the current FY13 roadmap. Not like you can use the RF on a Leica with anything wider than 28 but people still do it as well.

Enjoy the pixel peeping - I'll enjoy taking photos and putting them up on the walls around my house 😉

Bingo...

There's that whole corner sharpness argument that pops up from time to time on any number of interweb fora - I usually don't look at the corners of an image to determine if the photo is "good" or not - maybe I'm an aberration of the non-chromatic kind 😉

yup.

the most important thing is that the owner of equipment needs to be happy with their results. whether i or alex are happy with them is not relevent to whether someone else is.

having said that, alex ive come to your point of view on this. i really wanted to like RF lens rendering on the xpro, but no matter how hard i try, i just dont. and its not a corner sharpness issue, its an overall sharpness/clarity issue. the difference compared to native lens rendering is to my eye stunning. when you factor in the price, oh well.

but again, different opinions, different expectations, different requirements, makes the world go 'round. me, i'm waiting til photokina. if nothing new comes out i'll be buying a gxr m mount rig. but boy, when i get to the point of wanting to shoot primarily AF, i will run not walk to the xpro.
 
Having a 12mm and loving it on the R-D1, I wonder if the 14/2.8 from Fuji won't fill the gap the 12mm would be used for, also being faster.

Mostly I frame the 12mm on the R-D1 using a 21mm external VF, so I basically am shooting as if it were a 21mm, having the extra field of view of an 18mm.

The 14mm will be a 21 on the X-Pro1 and, I assume, it would be similar on the R-D1 (if there was a 14mm being made in M or Screw mount that is..)

While 21mm is good I just want something a bit wider - hence my search for the 12mm which will turn out to be 18mm..

My intent is to use my 21mm Zeiss viewfinder and see what it's like by using the whole finder, and include "outside" of the frame lines, on the X-Pro1.

I also have M7's so I'm not merely just considering the 12mm for the X-Pro1 alone... oh no.. the uber wide 12mm will be fun to play with on film 🙂

That right there is my reasoning as well. I don't currently own a Leica but the draw of the X-Pro 1 for me was I could ditch my heavy DSLR gear and start investing in a system that supported M-mount lenses for when I pick up my Leica. I like the fact if I just want to wander around with the X-Pro1 and 35mm and be lazy with AF I can or maybe I slap an M-mount lens on it and go or decide I want to take the M camera instead and just mount the M lenses there.

Flexbility is always a good thing 🙂
 
OK, here are some pics I took today in Ithaca with the 12mm and a Rainbow Imaging adapter (I think). The last one is a corner crop at f/8.

I've changed my mind about adapted lenses on this camera--this is more than good enough for me, and the EVF aquitted itself better than expected, especially considering how easy it is to zone focus. I hadn't anticipated how nice it would be to use an 18mm-equivalent lens on a rangefinder-like camera without an auxiliary viewfinder.

Some nice shots. These days I normally do no go wider than 21.. So that 14 from Fuji is my target for the widest, but a 24 equiv is my normal wide... The cv15 is closest enough for now. I hope Fuji releases a 16...

I like the rendering on the X-Pro1 and I'm looking forward to my mirrorless body for using the CV15 without additional finder (now on Bessa-L +CV15mm finder). A few questions on your first image here:
a) Is this standard colour setting in the X-Pro1 or a special film simulation mode?
b) Did you correct geometry in PP?
c) Did you correct colors in PP?

The result is amazing either way.

I was shooting jpegs. a) the color ones were in Velvia mode, and the black and white one was the standard monochrome. b) I didn't do any lens corrections or vignetting correction on any. Also the first one is cropped somewhat. Only the black and white one is completely uncropped. c) in LR4.1, I just hit auto and tweaked from there. I didn't do any white balance adjustment.
