I have just bought one of these and I am most disappointed with the sharpness. It's not a matter of focusing as I have used it with both M8 rangefinder and Panasonic G1 manual focusing.

What is the general experience with this lens?

My 21/4 is plenty sharp enough for me. (Unlike Lawrence, I don't mind the vignetting.) Perhaps you have a bad sample?

If you're using it on digital bodies, you may be seeing corner/edge "smearing" -- the rear element projects far enough into the body that light exiting the rear element hits the edges and sides of the sensor at a very low angle, leading to loss of resolution -- something which some people find objectionable even on a 2x crop sensor.

I used to have one. Nothing special, but it was good enough, especially since it wasn't a full time everyday lens for me.

I eventually got a good deal on a Kobalux 21mm, and then a ZM 21/2.8. Sold both the CV and the Kobalux and kept the ZM, which is an extraordinary lens.

I have one with LTM mount. I use it on both film (IIIG) and digital (M8) bodies. My copy is pretty sharp and I don't really have any problem.

This lens is pretty soft wide open but get sharper once stopped down.. I usually don't shoot it at f4

My first was dire. My second is decent, but its no Zeiss ZM. At f4 its good on centre and by 5.6 razor sharp with corners continuing to improve to f8-11. I generally shoot at f8 for a good all round performance. I carry mine when I want something light in teh bottom of the bag but would prefer a ZM 21 4.5. My 2.8 ZM is superb but larger of course.

I will sell my 21mm / F4 LTM with M Mount
Adapter by ebay Germany. I'm " 321pseudo "
