Hi Folks,
Recently I purchased a CV 25/4 snapshot skopar from cameraquest and a J9 85/2 from an RFF'er. I got a bit delirious and felt the need to shoot some non-scientific test shots.

The below are quite representative of the results from the roll shot on my R3A. All in all I am very happy.

CV 25/4 Group:

Congrats - looks like you got a very nice J-9 lens. These are usually found with problems. Also, it seems that you did a good job focusing it wide open - not an easy task on Bessa cameras. And of course 25mm lens is a great one - no questions about that.
Enjoy and show more photos taken with them. 🙂

Yep, I figure if I buy things from RFF members, they're usually good or in the coniditon they stated it in unlike EvilBayers. And a huge barrage of questions thru PMs help too!

I honestly don't know if the J-9 was modified or not. I just asked the seller for some pictures he shot with it. They were good and he used an r2a so I figured it'd be fine on a r3a. Maybe he will comment on this thread?

As far as focusing goes:
lawn guardians: frog
Gate: left of the middle
faucet: faucet

All these shots used the AE lock function on the bessa r3a, but considering the focal length, I'm not sure it really changed much.

Thanks for looking guys

You are very lucky with your J9 - never let it go again or sell it to me 🙂. Congrats to your lenses, and nice pictures !

Roland.

I always thought FSU lenses just can't focus good on any Bessa because of the FSU (=Contax) vs. Leica standard focal length... but your pictures change it completely... I'll have to do more tests... and then some more... and then some more 😀

You know, I have a J8 that works fine too on the bessa. I'll have to do some investigating from the previous onwers of the j8 and j9 though to see if they were modified in any way.

Hmm, just spoke to my "dealers" (Hahaha give me more of that lens crack!).

As far as the j9 goes, it's inconclusive. The previous owner doesn't know if it had been modified, and he didn't modify it either.

the j8 was purchased straight from Russia. The previous owner didn't modify that one either.

Here's a J8 shot close and wide open.

Both my j8 and j9 are shooting great. If I ever get a j3, than I think the safest bet is to "sweenyify" it.

I'm under the impression that it's hit or miss with soviet lens, and there' s no definitive answer. But what do I know? I agree test shots are the way to go.

Hi... Of course, the CV 25/4 is wonderful!

With the J9, you have crisp detail in the rusty gate shot... and a
lovely bokeh in the background of the faucet shot. The J9 may
have been modified. From what I've heard, J8's on a Bessa, can go
either way; but J9's oftten need to be modified.

Use both well!
Cheers, mike
