I have just purchased a chrome Voigtlander 28mm 3.5 Skopar for use with an external finder on my M2 and sometimes my IIf. Unfortunately, it does not include the hood.

I know that the LH-1 hood will fit this lens, but seeing that it was actually designed for the 21mm Skopar, it seems a bit excessive and large for use on the 28mm lens. I am still considering this hood, but only because I plan on owning the 21mm Skopar some day, and I know that this hood has been discontinued.

I have a feeling that the generic (Heavystar) 39mm hoods on that auction site will vignette on a lens as wide as 28mm, but I do not know. This is probably my preferred solution. Any chance this will work without vignetting?

I guess worse comes to worse I could just get two cheap used 39mm filters, pop out the glass and screw the rings on to approximate the OEM short hood. Personally, I am hoping to find something with a bit more flare protection than this setup, but I guess it will have to do if there are no other viable options.

Any suggestions?

What are you all using?

I have shot extensively with the Skopar 28/3.5 lens. It's one of my favorites. You don't need a hood (other than the little round one that came with the lens). It's quite flare-resistent. As George Bonanno says, save your money....

Hoods are for more than flare remediation. They also protect the front element from errant fingers, bumps, and other hazards.

True enough. But I have never had a problem using just the hood this lens came with. I do use a filter, however, to protect the lens.

That is the problem, there is no little round hood that came with the lens, and I don't use filters all that often.

CameraQuest still offers the original round hood. It's tiny, but does the job.

Well, I see it there on the "For Sale" page, but it is not listed on the new shopping cart page. I could ask Mr. Gandy if he has any left, but at the moment shelling out $40 for that little ring does not sound very appealing (I have already spent a lot more money than is wise in the last few weeks). For the time being I'll just stack two filter rings with the glass removed. Problem solved.

This does lead me to two other questions though:

Are the hoods from the various skopars the same length? (they sure look that way)

Are the hoods interchangeable between the LTM lenses and their M counterparts?

None of it really matters, I'm just wondering if I could use the hood from a future LTM or M skopar purchase on the 28/3.5.
