CV 35mm Ultron Loose Barrel Fix

Hi guys! I recently had an issue with my 35 Ultron, where it developed a loose barrel from the front of the lens to right before the focusing ring.

Couldn't find anything here, so i thought I'd share my documentation on the fix.

Hope this helps someone out there. Images have been posted further down this thread.

I have this problem and also the focus ring is kind of loose in mine, moving front and bakwards. Hope to find a fix for that too.
 
The screws on my Ultron are tight as hell!! I´m completely unable to do this since I started to wear out the screw heads...

Moreover the focus ring moves front and backwards like 2mm. Even my fsu lenses are more solid. A killer performer anyway.

Focus ring moves! Ok...that's a new one man. One day when i do encounter that, I may just update my information.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get the faceplate off? I can unscrew it with my fingers but it doesn't come all the way off?

I'm in the middle of adjusting my LTM Ultron right now, but have stopped because I found that my screwdrivers aren't small enough to go into the second internal plate holes.


The detent ball bearing was caught in the aperture ring at first, then it slipped out and fell on to the floor. UGH! It took several minutes and a torch to find it. Now I have to work out how to set it back in the lens and put the aperture ring back on.


Tomorrow morning, I'll buy a new set of micro screwdrivers. Not cool. But if I get this done, the front ring won't be wobbling around any more, and I can fully enjoy this lens.
 
If you plan on doing stuff like that again, don't buy normal micro screwdrivers. They will slip and/or degrade the screw heads on Japanese equipment. Order some JIS screwdrivers.

Wait, really? What the heck are JIS screwdrivers?? I'll see if the electrical shop I'm going to has them.

JIS = Japanese Industrial Standard screwdrivers. They have blade sides that do not taper but fit square to the slots in the screw head, and tend not to "twist out" of the slot under lateral force; more effective in use.

Hard to find in US stores but easy enough to get on the Internet

In the meantime, I was getting sick of having the lens half assembled, and without JIS screwdrivers, I put it back together. In the process, the detent ball has slipped and I've now got a 35 Ultron with declicked aperture as its unique feature. ;) And yeah, the aperture barrel still wobbles. I'll shoot a wedding with it this weekend, then get the tools and figure this darn thing out.

SPECIAL NOTE: anyone thinking of dissembling this lens should do so on a cleared table, and over a tray with raised edges. This way, if the detent ball or anything falls out, it will stay put and be easy to find. Learned this the hard way.
