I purchased a 15mm Heliar for my R3A and it arrived today. I need to get an adapter for it, and I'm curious if I need to buy the Voigtlander brand one, or if any of them will work just fine?

Are the cheaper ones on ebay problematic? (scratch up the mount, or the lense ends up mounting goofy...)

Well, any of the adapters should work... but I would be leary of anything but a name brand. I wouldn't want to mess with registration distance being good on a real no name.

I have several voigtlander adapters, they all suck in this aspect, none of my lenses will line up when mounted. in other words...they are crooked on the camera, I have read several other people that have this experience as well. My 15mm sits off about 10 degrees from center, so the hood looks crooked. The lenses all work but just don't look right, YMMV.

Oh yeah, my experience is on Leica bodies, your R3 may work fine.

I have two CV adapters and the lenses on them are at 12 o'clock, dead center. Do the lenses that are crooked on a bayonet mount sit straight on a LTM body?

no idea, I don't have a LTM body to check.

Leica lenses are supposed to off to the left.

It happens with CV and Leica adapters. Using the 15 with the built inshade may cause a vignetting problem.

If you remove the rear of the lens containing the screw mount, it can be remounted using another the three locating holes and straightened to have the top at the top. Use jewlers screwdrivers and the smallest one to probe the mount for line up with the correct hole. It is a simple fix.

Evidently CV starts their threads so their lenses are infinity top center on their cameras. Leica is different. This is not an adapter defect.

I bought one off Ebay and it's giving me issues:

- really hard to install
- lens' distance scale ends up at the 6 o'clock position
- focus at infinity does not match RF patch

I'm buying a CV adapter next and see if that works better.

My CV 15 sits a little off center on the Bessa L and R3 when used with an adapter. Doesn't seem to have any effect ( I was concerned about vignetting with the built in "petal" hood being slightly twisted to one side). Looking at photos of the L with 15 mounted at the Cameraquest site (second image from top of the black L) http://cameraquest.com/inventor.htm This used to bother me, but not any more. I just enjoy using this great little camera.

It is indeed crooked. I ordered a chromed bronze M adapter on ebay. We'll see how goofy it winds up looking. I refuse to pay 55 bucks for a freakin adapter.

I love how they claim a benefit of M mount is having access to the largest pool of lenses in existence. I guess so, if you're willing to get bent over on price around every corner.

I've bought more complex adapters with diopter correction for half the money.

I'll probably try to take the screws out of the back of the lens and shift the turn a bit if things are way off. Otherwise I'll just use it as is.

My adapter showed up in the mail today and despite some sharp edges on it, and the fact that I don't think it's bronze (I think it's just aluminum) it works.

It went on and clicked into place fine. It also showed up quick because he happens to also be from Iowa.

Lo and behold, the 15mm lens lines up perfectly...
