CV 40 1.4 hood cuts into rangefinder

Hey everyone,

I just got my R3M and 40 1.4 today and noticed the hood cuts into the rangefinder (bottom right). Is that going to be a problem? Any solutions?

Don't use the hood. 😉

Actually I think someone found a generic hood that fits it that is less intrusive. Maybe someone else will post with that information - hopefully someone who's not as much of a smart-alec as I am. 🙂

Here's the old thread on this subject with an alternative hood for the 40/1.4, which is said not to block the viewfinder:

Read down to the bottom where the 43 mm hood is discussed. That is the size for this lens.

Personally I hate to see such a compact lens elongated & widened by adding such a big hood. Have you considered just using a filter to protect the lens?

although the hood intrudes into the finder, you'll find you learn to ignore it very quickly. you're just using the finder to frame and adjust the focus (which the hood doesn't interfere with). i don't mind it even on my r4a.

The thing that bothers me more about the hood than the VF intrusion, is that it makes it difficult to put the lens cap on.

So I often use an empty 43mm filter ring instead. The lenses, in particular the
MC, are pretty flare resistant.

i don't really use the lens cap unless i'm storing it away. GrahamWelland turned me on to Optech HoodHats - they fit really well and also ensure you don't forget to remove the lens cap 🙂

I came home tonight to find my new 40mm Nok SC has arrived.

As for a hood... well... do we really need one? How much more flare-prone is the SC version?

I've got a lens hood for my Voigtlander 40mm SC but never use it. If I did use it I'd live with the viewfinder intrusion and use the vents to see more.

It's a non issue.
