CV 40 f1.4 0n a CL?

No experience but I reckon it'll work fine. Much depends on how well you're able to use your eye to focus as much as the effective base length of the CL.

Is it OK to use a Nokton 40mm on a Leica CL, I understand that 50mm 1.4s are touch and go but what abot the 40mm?
has anyone experience of this combination?

I have experience. It works great! 😀

Yes it works fine on a CL, its equivalent to a 50mm f2 which is the limit for a CL. Just be more diligent with focusing at close distances at 1.4.

It works fine on my CLE!

It is easier to use on a CLE as it has 50% greater effective baselength than the CL.

Works fine on my CLE as well! The lens doesn't have a protruding rear element, so I guess (since I've never had a CL) there should be no inteference with the CL's meter stalk or other interior bits. As mentioned, though, the CL has a shorter baseline...

Supposedly the Voigtländer 40mm/1.4 was designed with the Leica CL and Minolta CLE in mind. Apparently Mr. Kobayashi, Cosina/Voigtländer's owner is a big fan of the old CL's.

Joe, would you have a photo of the Nokton 40/1.4 mounted on your CL? I am thinking of getting one to create a (the ultimate?) small-form-factor, low-light outfit.

According to ampguy, collapsible 50mm lens can be mounted on the CL, but my Industar-22 isn't quite fast enough in terms of aperture. Hence the appeal of the Nokton.

Thanks, Joe. It looks sweet, but not quite as small as I had imagined. I think I shall hold off the purchase for now.

That's one more attack averted. Last night I was frantically researching compact rangefinders, and part of me kept wishing that nothing could be smaller than the CL.
