CV 50mm f/1.1 Nokton Repair?

Hey guys,

So I'm out on a road trip and I had a bit of a bag mishap, the zipper flew open on my backpack as I was picking it up and my nokton flew out of the bag and hit the ground. It still functions, but there is a small sized impact ding in the focusing ring and it creates some tension in the focusing action.

I'm going to need to have it repaired and I wanted to see what my options were and if anyone has a clue as to how much it'll cost.

Bah it's ok. I mean yes it's disappointing, but it happens! I'm out using my gear and sometimes things happen.

At least my M240 wasn't attached at the time, then I'd probably throw up.

Would Stephen Gandy be the one to reach out to?

I would email DAG with the details and ask for advice.

Considering the lens in perfect condition goes for around 700-750, repair could be relatively expensive.

Certainly worth looking into though.

I would test carefully for de-centering. If I saw any I would see the lens for parts and get another.

After a talk with Mr. Gandy I was advised to have a chat with Steve's Camera in Culver City. I'm going to send the lens in to them and get an estimate on the repair, hopefully it won't be too expensive. I don't care about the cosmetics too much, I just want it to focus smoothly so I can continue using the lens 😉.

Optically it seems to be on-point at least, so that's a plus. Though would there be any specific way to test for de-centering other than shooting a flat textured surface?
