I carefully have followed Leica severe warning about not collapsing certain lenses into their "storage" position when using them on the M8.

Then I noticed the rearward permanent optical protrusion on my 35mm Summicron ASPH and thought to measure it against my new CV Helier 50mm in its collapsed position. Well, whadda ya know: the Summicron protrudes further back into the cavity of the M8 that the Heliar in its fully collapsed positon! So there's no problem using the new Heliar in all its modes on the M8.

Check this out for yourself but the 50mm Heliar is one collapsible lens that should be fully usable on the M8, IMHO.

I also have an old Leica 50mm Summar collapsible lens, vintage 1937. It DOES protrude quite a ways back in to the cavity when stowed. I'll need to figure out an artful way to keep that lens permamently "at the ready" and locked so it can also be used on the M8 (via bayonet adapter) and not risk being pushed back for storage which would impact the fragile shutter blades and therefore ruin ones entire day.

Here's what I did to keep my Summitar from collapsing:

Just a piece of rubber hose cut up and wrapped around it.

Will do. I'll have some time to mess with re-sizing (shrinking) the images down to fit through the internet pipe tomorrow. If you don't see 'em here, look in the Zeiss thread.

I'm pleased with what I have seen so far.

I saw a solution somewhere on the net. The person used a short length of hose. The hardware store has all kinds of different diameter clear plastic hose material. Cut it to length, then slit it. You can then pop it on the lens barrel, and prevent the lens from collapsing. Worth a try....should not cost more than a few cents (they sell the hose by the inch).
