CV 75/2.5 First Impressions

Whoops - that should have been should read "BLEVE", not blevie:

"-Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion (aka Blast Leveling Everything Very Effectively; firefighting term for exploding tanks)"

😀

It's a great lens, not too big (not really small either), very smooth focussing action, and great results. But, after getting one two weeks ago, I find myself using it for a couple of shots, and switching to the Nikon with an 85/2 or 105/2.5. I guess I just don't like long lenses on rangefinders (I had this suspicion I might not - that's why I bought the shortest long lens there is - a 75mm). I'm probably going to sell it soon, and use my SLR's for long lenses, and my Bessa for wides. It's a great lens though - but holding my Bessa in horizontal orientation, trying to get an accurately focussed portrait, shot up close in a matter of seconds, is just too hard compared to doing the same with my SLRs.

I thought the Bessa + 35mm + 75mm might be my ideal lightweight camera kit, but I always end up taking more than one camera anyway - don't really need a lightweight kit all that much.

I just received this lens in the mail today, courtesy of Joseph Yao in Hong Kong. Haven't taken any pictures with it yet, but it looks good in black. Like others have commented, build quality, focusing action et al is very pleasing and acceptable. Love the hood that it comes with.

Despite what it might sound like, I'm not one of those camera collector-fondlers. I just can't do anything with this lens except look at it, until the bessa R arrives. 🙂

I'm certainly happy with mine. Here are a few samples:

I find I don't use it quite as much as I'd like to: when I was travelling, perhaps 5-10% of the time. It is a lovely lens, perfect for portraits as it has a slight intentional softness that's quite flattering.

It's a bit redundant with a 50mm lens as they feel quite similar in terms of field of view, but a 35 or 40 and 75 combo would be nice.
