Hmm - a rumour ? or not a rumour ?

I was hoping they would go the whole hog, pull out all the stops and go for f1.0. CV were able to design a masterpiece with the Nokton 35/1.2, so I am sure this lens will be a credit to Cosina as well.
I suppose your trusted source haunts North Sydney area!! And he has my credit card details! I am headed to those parts tomorrow morning, so hopefully I will be able to get some more details.
Now to buy the Noctilux or not...

Well I certainly hope you are right. This would be absolutely phenomenal news if true. The lack of seriously fast normal lenses at affordable prices has been a problem in the rangefinder world. Since the Canon 50mm F1.2 has now started to soar in price this problem has been particularly acute.

If this is true, they may have selected F1.1 to commemorate the Zunow or Nikon F1.1's in some sense. This would be typical of Cosina. To make a new lens in the spirit of a famous and rare vintage lens. It's an appealing idea, at least to me. And, by the way of course, F1.1 is hardly slow as far as speed is concerned!I was hoping they would go the whole hog, pull out all the stops and go for f1.0. CV were able to design a masterpiece with the Nokton 35/1.2, so I am sure this lens will be a credit to Cosina as well.

I am also in Sydney, I need to contact this 'source'
I remember awhile back Steven Gandy posted a thread about - What CV Lens Do You Want Next? Stating that they were keeping track of comments. A lot of those comments were asking for a fast or smaller 50mm!

I would actually shed a tear if true.
I'd hope that it has half click stops unlike the other CV F mount lenses I've used.

I'd say if this is indeed true - it would be $1200 or so. No reason to make it more - or it goes into Hexanon range and CV already has 35/1.2 at $800+ range. I hope (again, if this is true) that it will be more like CV 35/1.2 as far as signature goes, cause, at least to me, thier Nokton 35/1.4 was a lesser lens that Ultron 35/1.7 - based on signature. I know - these things are personal, but I really would hope that a new Nokton 50 would draw similar to it's 35/1.2 cousin.

While we can speculate...
One thing that will swing me away from the Noctilux for sure is if this lens focuses down to 0.7m... I know there is not much in 300mm, but sometimes you just need to get closer.
Also if Cosina can get their f1.1 to not vignette as severe as the Noctilux, then while you may lose a 1/4 stop in the center, the CV will be effectively as fast overall as the Noct.
Price will come into play to some extent... I hate to hazard a guess where this will land price-wise, but if the Bessa III has taught me anything... then I will plan for the worst case scenario and be pretty pessimistic about the final price.
So taking all the evidence in account, I won't be surprised if this lens pushes over $2000USD, look at the Zeiss 85/2, current price is just short of $3000USD, yes, I know that lens is made in Germany and has the Zeiss label. The Cosina-made Zeiss 50/1.5 is $1000USD. If the price of the CV 50/1.1 comes within $1500USD of the Noctilux, I will still buy the Noct unless the CV lens is an overwhelming winner in close focusing, vignetting and etc.
But I am very, very keen to see this rumoured CV offering... I have no problem with spending less of my hard-earned money for a super-fast 50mm.

I love threads like this
I predict 100 posts by this time tomorrow, and a price of around 190,000 yen for the lens

Glad someone is keeping an eye on us hoodlums down here! We are a bunch of rebel-rousers, you know.
Also since we are up-side down... heavy lenses don't bother us!
