Did a search and couldn't see this mentioned before:

I knew this article but read it again , this gentlemen is not only a tech nuts and photo obsessed person, he is most of all a marketing genious.

For those who cannot live without the right brand name of course his products are not acceptable. For all the others tho he offers an incredible value for the money, something like 98% of performance and build quality for 25% of the price.
For me he is a true entrepreneur in the best sense of the word and this contributed to my decision to support his business.

Compared to him, in an economical context, I see Leica more as an blot in our pesent German economy, sad to see what opportunities they have missed and how poor their interest in innovation and new competences is.

And for all whose BP will explode now I add that this is no Leica bashing, no, it just describes the arrogance and incompetence of the owners and the management.

Curious if the M8 will be something like a turnaround. It must be a turnaround, otherwise one of the very last German optical top brands is wiped out too.

Camera maker yes, but I'd consider Rodenstock, Schneider Kreuznach and Zeiss as optical top brands, too.

Thanks for the link kully, I enjoyed this article.

Since I first stumbled across Camerequest, I literally fell in love with the looks of the Bessa R. It has (in my humble opinion) a very classic look and feel. The "plastic" components raised some concerns, but I have always been gentle with my equipment and now that I have the Bessa R with the 35/2.8 lens I really enjoy it.

Thanks again,

Best regards to all,

Bill K.

Fitzi,

I have been saying for the last year that Lecia should be building lenses for the 4/3s, Canon and Nikon mount as a way to salvage the company. Killing the R line of cameras would not hurt, keep making lenses for them, but kill new bodies.

I fear that Zeiss seems quicker to the punch that Leica, but I think there is room for two high end companies.

While I have several Ms, I too am a CV customer and lover. The most recent lens I got (40/1.4) is very close to my 35/2 'cron in feel (smooth lens to focus) and sharpness. I am a lover of 85/2 or 105/2.5 lenses so I can not go with the newer Bessas as they lack a long enough rangefinder base lenght to focus. So I am move back to my Ms now that my kids are old enough to know not to break dad's camera.
