I spotted a thread that the black CV lens are flaking the black coating. Is this really happening? Do you recommend buying the chrome ones in the future instead of the black? Thank you in advance.

Yes & yes. Except for the 28/3.5, for some reason that doesn't seem
to flake ...

Roland.

Flake, or does the paint chip off a little? I had a black Ultron that the paint had chipped off a little on the edge of the hood, but it was fine otherwise.

I have 2 black CV lenses a 40 Nokton which I bought new and hasn't flaked at all and a 28 Ultron I bought used which shows some loss of the black paint but it's no worse than sort of ordinary brassing. Not at all a big deal for me.

i lost a little black paint on the flange near the serial number on my 28/3.5, but the color of the metal is nearly black.

I opted for the silver finish on my "R" and the lenses I've bought for it because I thought the metallic (chrome?) finish would be tougher than the paint, but that's just my 2c worth...haven't had 'em long enough (and they ARE well protected) for any wear factors to set in...

My 40mm Nokton gets a lot of abuse/use and it hasn't flaked. Not the case for the 75 Heliar I bought - that's heavily brassed. My 21/4 is OK but that stays on the camera a lot so is reasonably well protected.
Lens caps are a different matter, but its their job to get bashed about...

I have the 12, 15, 21, 35, and 50 CVs. They are all fine except for the 50 Nokton. It seems to loose paint and brass just by looking at it. But as said above, as long as the glass is good, I don't really care.
