My dream machine is a an R3A with 40mm 1.4 SC.

Robert White has the body for £540 inc tax ($810) and the lens for £345 inc tax ($517).

My purchases are mostly driven by my heart, but my head has to come along for the ride!

At £885 complete my head is struggling with this.

Gray's of Westminster have a Nikon D90/28mm 2.8 for £838 (not a film/digital thread please!), but it does put the cost of CV in perspective for myself.

Does anyone else think the CV option is now very expensive in the UK?

I paid that much in spring 2006, it's not so expensive.

I have a friend who might want to sell a nice 40/1.4 SC, I'll send you a PM.

PS You can't compare the prices of SLRs and RFs, the economies of scale mean that RFs will never be as cheap.

Just google a bit before you waste your money.

Normal price for R3A in Germnay is about 500 E and 400 E for the Nokton. ANything substantially more than that does not make sense. But if I compare it to what you quote - it is not a substantial difference. The Pound is nearly equal Euro nowadays ...

Look here:
www.fotopartner.de
or
http://www.fotoklaus-herne.de/Spiegelreflexkameras.htm (here the nokton is at 340 E
or
http://www.audiophilfoto.de (more expensive but have a real shop)

Please note I have not yet used any of the above. This is jsut googling and searching this forum. Look HERE

You're just a little late. Until the end of '08 the kit you're talking about (only possibly MC version of 40, don't know) was going for 750 in Germany (fotomundus among others).

The current price hike is due to obvious in current environment but is mostly triggered by Japan. I know firsthand that most (if not all) Japanese electronic manufacturers, and especially camera manufacturers have increased their prices as of January due to strong Yen. I haven't checked if this is already felt on the market, but if some prices didn't go up they're kept down for sell-out or positioning purposes. Distributors already have to pay more.

Buy used. Some sellers may even do you the courtesy of listing a reduced price to save you import duty.

Cameras like the Bessa R* series aren't disposable. Your head will have plenty of time to come around and be persuaded by your heart.
