CV21 hood removal?

Can anybody give me a quick primer on how to remove the rectangular hood from the CV21? I've done it before a few times w/ difficulty, but it's been awhile and this time totally confounds me.

If I back off the setscrew, the hood just spins around, but doesn't unscrew. What's the trick here I'm missing?

Tighten the set screw until the hood is firmly in place, then unscrew the whole thing. Ta da.
(The set screw is only there so that you can position the hood correctly once the hood is firmly screwed onto a lens.)
