doesn't work, guess it's OsX messing something up during copy-paste.
OSX is quite capable of handling Cyrillic and other non-roman characters... On your menubar near the right should be a US flag symbol... drop that menu and choose "Open Character Palette". When that's open note the drop-down menu at upper left labeled "View" and choose "All characters". That will offer an opportunity to choose Cyrillic alphabet. It may not be available in all fonts...

If you're using windows, go to Control Panel>Regional and Language Options, then click the "languages" tab.

Click on the 'details' on the "Text Services and Input Languages Tab", then select 'settings'.

On the "installed services" tab, scroll down to select the language alphabet you want to add. If you have the full windows version installed, Russian and Cyrillic alphabets (Bulgarian, Croatian, etc) are there. Once the alphabet you selected is highlighted, click "add".

Then click the 'language' bar at the bottom of the tab. Check "Show the Language Bar on the desktop" and "Show additional Language bar icons in the taskbar". You'll need these so that you can easily shift from one alphabet to another whilst typing. Then click OK.

You should be able to see icons (eg, EN for english, RU for Russian, etc) in your windows taskbar. They should be at the bottom right.)

Note that when you click RU for Russian, your keyboard will follow the Russian typewriter layout. For example, striking the keys A,S,D,F will type in the cyrillic letters Ф,Ы,В,А respectively.

The same procedure will also allow you to type in whatever language you want- for example, 汉语,or even にほんご 😀

There is a similar method for Macintosh described by Doug above, where there is an option for typing cyrillic phonetically so that you don't have to learn or memorize the cyrillic typewriter keyboard.

edit: sorry didn't read your post well, it did say you didn't use windows 😱

Since you said you are using OSX....

go to system preferences.

select international

select input menu

then go down to Russian. Choose either Russian (for the Russian keyboard) or Phonetic Russian if you are not a native typer and prefer working with a normal keyboard.

Once that is checked, you may have to restart.
You should now have a flag in the upper right part of your screen. If you click it, you should be able to select Russian.

If you still cannot type in Russian, черт знает...

hehe czjort znayet you say, right!
it doesn't work, I let it go but thanks for so much input.
HTML is easier, you select coding and thats it, min oh mine.

When you installed OSX, did you include foreign language support? If not, if you put in the install CD, you should be able to add it. As others have said, this is a piece of cake for any modern operating system to do...I am currently running OSX with support for Russian, Japanese and Icelandic keyboards...see:

я могу говоритъ на русском, 日本語お話せることがあります、そうして
Mer finnst gaman að tala íslensku á nettið.

it's not the problem that I can't type russian, I can paste russian symbols in my signature but when I click "preview signautre" or "save signature" I get only "???" or other weird signs. There is no problem to save them in word etc.

Hmm, that sounds more like a problem with the RFF software than with you computer then...let me see if I can do it in mine...

Ok, I just tried all three languages in the signature...only Icelandic showed up. Russian and Japanese went to ????????? when you previewed it. That is a problem with the forum software, not with your computer. Sorry!

I just tried putting some Russian in my signature and got it without problems. Черт побери.

Incidentally, great avatar. I like #10 best, the one on the construction site. And I like the way Wolf whistles "Песня о друге" in #1 when climbing up the house.
