d200 with 85/1.8 af-d

I really like the 85/1.8 D...though I find myself reaching for the DC-105/2 much more often....if the light is good enough for hand held shots.

When'd you get a D200? :O I used to use that exact same kit quite a bit.

Good shots, well done. I still have my D200 and its my main DSLR. I had an 85mm f1.8 AF and liked it very much but always had an irrational craving for an 85mm f1.4. When one became available second hand in my local area I sold the 1.8 and bought the 1.4. The latter has better bokeh and build but thats about it. The 1.8 is a great lens and in some ways I wish I still had it - not instead of but in addition to. There are times when its smaller size works better. But I suspect that when I can afford it I will go in the other direction as someone else here says - the 105mm or 135mm f2 DC AF which are both said to be superb.

it's a good lens indeed. i think the heavier weight of the d200 helps me steady it better.

the difference in price from 1.8 to 1.4 is craziness for me...i wanted to build a dslr kit as cheaply as possible but i also wanted a good quality kit.
so far, it's working!

You are right it is crazy. And the 1.8 is a fine lens. I had no rational reason for going for the 1.4. But I am sure you know how that is as do most amateur photographers. We just cant help ourselves. 😉 Where as pros buy because they really need something.

Nice to see the D200 still gets the job done!

I opted for the 85/1.8 too. I just ddn't see how the extra $$$$ was worth it.
