D700 in which the memory card needs checking

I own a Nikon D700 in which the memory card slot or part may have been damaged. I don't now if one of the the contact pins has been broken or not.
Do you know of a Nikon repair service that may be suitable for such a check-up and repair?
I got a new SD card [edited: CF card], and the problem persists that the camera does not sense the card.

The D700 uses CF cards not SD cards but I assume it's only mistyping ? And you may be able to look at the pins located at the bottom of the card socket, a flashlight and a loupe will allow you to see whether one, or more, pin(s) got twisted or broken.

Yes, I goofed. I meant the CF cards. I need to try again to use a light to check the pins.

I think it might have to go directly to Nikon - either Melville, NY or Los Angeles. They ended their authorized service program last year.

The official service centers in Melville or LA are still available for products with US warranty. I mailed a 58/1.4 to Melville late last fall after it fell and broke elements out. Same lens came was shipped back good as new from LA 4 days after it arrived in NY... 😕

For some of the older digital products, it may still be worthwhile to try other repair shops like APS if desired. Bent CF pins are a common problem and some shops might have a few of those more common parts still around.

The D700 is an old camera, one of Nikon's first full frame digitals. Nikon, Inc., may no longer service it or have parts. You might have to go to an independent shop that still has parts to repair. An online search can show shops in your area that advertise working on Nikons.

A fair amount of dust with tiny bread, tobacco, fabric debris congealed altogether at the end of the CF slot, around the pins, will have the same effect as broken or bent pins - the camera won't recoghnize the card. You may solve your problem yourself with a small brush, alcohol and a vacuum cleaner, Raid.

I watched this video just to see the awesome work being done on the Nikon. I would lose all screws and then I would mess up the D700 completely. I am just not trained or handy with such a repair.

I'd rather watch inside my CF card slot first, instead of watching repair videos. I just did it by the way, still having a camera taking CF cards at home. It's very easy to check the condition and the number of the pins. It ain't some coal mine tunnel. I did it using the regular ceiling lamp of my kitchen, and without any lupe. What a big adventure isn't it.

What you must see if everything's alright is a double row of 25 pins each, thus 50 pins total. The pins must have a normal brass color.

I looked at the pins with a lit loupe. One pin is missing at the far end. In place of two pins I see one pin. There may be 49 pins now and not 50. The pins have a normal brass color. I may have broken the pin. Can it be repaired or must the card reader be replaced?
