D76 mixed as one-shot concentrate?

You could explore storing your D-76 in properly-marked wine bottles, using the vacuum stoppers and pumps wine shops and some groceries sell. But I think HC-110 is your best answer. Nice long shelf life and very controllable. Developer may be the worst possible place to try to save money.

i grew up on HP5+ and hc110 in high school and as a result i am not a fan of either (thought hc110 is tempting me back...)

I prefer Tri-X/HC-110 to HP5/HC-110. I also like my HC-110 at dilution H (the "unofficial" dilution equivalent to dil B 1+1), and with minimal agitation - it seems to rein in the highlight contrast a bit.

well, i decided that i would go the hc-110 route. not sure i got the grain structure i was hoping for from it with some tmax 3200. i will find out when i scan. regardless, i think it will be better than the ifosol s i have been using...

Liquid concentrates are a great way to go, but consider this.....(Here come the flames, I know it!....) Try one tablespoon of d-76 powder (WELL STIRRED AS THE DIFFERENT CHEMICAL CRYSTALS SETTLE AT DIFFERENT RATES IN THE CONTAINER) mixed with 300ml of water, or 600ml if you want to go 1:1. This will give you enough to develop 1 roll. I can't guarantee that it'll work, but it has always worked for me. I like using D-76 for Plus-X and Tri-X, and then use TMaxx Develper for TMaxx film. I don't do enough to mix up a gallon at a time, and I'm kind of a waste not, want not person. Okay, my helmet's on, so go ahead everyone, hit me with your best shot!

No flame here, Rhoyle. I'm naturally "frugal" myself, and I don't go through enough B&W to avoid wasting chemicals.

So, I mix up 1/2 (or sometimes only 1/4) of an envelope of D-76 at a time. (I do the same with Dektol for prints.)

I can usually mix the remainder a few months later with no problem. If I wait too long, I have seen developer crystals which looked a little too brown, and tossed them.

But I've had generally good results with my approach.
